A native of
Jamaica, songwriter, and dynamic performer, Andre White
has developed a vocal style which captures many elements
of the 1970ís heyday of roots reggae in Jamaica. With
lyrical contributions that are geared toward
determination, truth, and humanity, Andre Nicholas
captivates his audiences with his stage presence, putting
every ounce of his small stature into his singing.
Musical influences include Winston Rodney
Spear), Max Romeo, Jacob Miller, Bob Marley,
David Hinds (Steel Pulse) and
leaving his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica in 1993 to pursue a
degree at St. Lawrence University (where he dominated NCAA
Division III soccer with his goal-scoring), Andre White
teamed up with Brendan DeMelle
and Peyton Tochterman to form Zion Express- a powerful,
all-original, roots rock reggae band which performed
extensively in the upstate New York college circuit.
Andre moved to Washington DC after obtaining his degree from SLU and linked
up with drummer
Alfred Adams. Andre also holds a Masters in Informaton Technology from Johns Hopkins University and formed the band with Brendan DeMelle and Alfred Adams in 2000.
