Brendan DeMelle - Bass
Originally
trained on bass and guitar by jazz legend
Michael
Musillami,
DeMelle has performed on both coasts of the US in a variety of musical
settings. After spending a few years dabbling in
various dub, ska, roots rock & reggae projects in Seattle, WA and
Hartford, CT, he came to the DC area in 2000 to reunite with
Andre
Nicholas,
his college bandmate and close friend.
DeMelle’s creepy,
seductive basslines color Nicholas’ lyrics
and lock in with
Adams’
and
Nunoo-Quarcoo's
percussive beats, creating a unique reggae sound.
While in the Northwest, DeMelle played with
Easy Big Fella (MoonSka NYC) and appears alongside his brother Jeff on
EBF's 1999 release Tasty
Bits and Spicy Flicks.
DeMelle's
bass influences include reggae greats Familyman Barrett, Robbie Shakespeare,
Flabba Holt, Lloyd Brevett, to name only a few, as well as Stanley Clarke,
Mingus, and Victor Wooten. His biggest influence on bass and in life
is his brother Jeff, who currently plays with
Clinton
Fearon and Boogie Brown Band.
